First it was the boycott of all things French - "freedom fries" and all that nonsense. Then there was SAG and actors getting flak for taking antiwar positions and the whole sorry business of blacklists redux. Now country radio's taking the Dixie Chicks off the air because of an antiwar remark. What's next, a Memorial Day weekend barbecue with a "Hate Week" theme straight out of 1984? I thought we were gonna fight this damn Iraq war in the name of democracy, not kill it at home. Whatever happened to the "loyal opposition"? Well, you know I won't be singing that gawd-awful song "God Bless the USA"... If we're gonna be jingoists, I'd much prefer "Battle Hymn of the Republic". At least "Battle Hymn" has a better tune and some depth to its lyrics.
