My parents just don't get it... Here I am working on an application for the only good job prospect I've got going in the last 2 months, and I'm getting lectured on how I'll never make money working for non-profits. Mom even got my uncle Y in Taiwan on her side. Dad already has M in Irvine agreeing with him on this too. As if money was the sole determinant of happiness. Well it's an important factor - no money = can't buy food, etc. - but there's also the feeling that I've helped someone in some way. And I don't see how working as a corporate tax attorney or somesuch will give me the same feeling of satisfaction as helping torture victims find asylum in the US. Or finding bright, energetic young people to go teach in poor inner-city schools, which is what I'd be doing if I got this job. J sez it's just an Asian parent thing... she gets the same from her dad. So I dunno... I wish they'd just lay off it and stop getting my extended relatives involved in it as well.
